Way before Unleased came along, resourceful business owners were sub-leasing their warehouse spaces anyway! We’ve just made it easier to connect the dots.
That’s why we love chatting with business owners like Scott from Mischief Brew in Norwood, South Australia. He’s been sharing his warehouse for years and it’s now part of normal business operations.
It started when a small business approached them to store dry goods on 58 pallet racks in their warehouse. And like many growing businesses, Mischief Brew did have warehouse space that wasn’t being used to its full potential. Instead of letting the valuable space sit unused, they opened up the space to the small business in need. This led to building a mindset that the warehouse space was open for sharing. In fact, one employee launched her own side hustle from the warehouse’s mezzanine area, transforming unused space into an artist’s studio!
After going through the process of sub-leasing, they now see it as an ongoing part of their operations. Scott says the arrangement worked out well for everyone: they don’t waste space in their warehouse and at the same time they’re earning some extra income. While the smaller businesses get to rent a space that is a good price and size for them!
The businesses currently sharing the space are moving on to their next chapters and expanding into their own premises. Rather than seeing this as an end, Mischief Brew sees it as proof that sharing their warehouse works! They’ve already decided they want to do it again.
Looking for the next business to share with
Mischief Brew is currently looking for their next warehouse-sharing partner. Ideally, they’d love to connect with a dry goods business, but they’re open to exploring other opportunities too. Check out their space listing on Unleased – if it hasn’t already been snapped up!
Could your spare warehouse space be working harder?
Scott’s story isn’t unique. Across Australia, businesses are paying for warehouse space they don’t fully use. All the while, other small businesses are desperately looking for affordable storage and workshop space. If you’ve got spare pallet positions, unused floor space, a mezzanine level gathering dust, or even an entire section of your warehouse sitting empty, there could be another business ready to use it.
